APPLE
CALIFORNIA | SERIES # 4
Hi, my name is Apple. I am 22, about to turn 23. I’m Latina and my pronouns are she/her. Living in Los Angeles has been a good journey, but there have been ups and downs. I’m lucky to have a great support system, that includes my family and all of the various groups I’m in. I’m happy to be who I am. This year, I have decided to take the steps to begin transitioning. It’s been nice so far, and I finally feel free to be the person I want to be.
If I could share a message with people that are in the same situation as me, I would say don’t be scared and take that next step. I remember being 18 years old and going to Long Beach City College for the first time. I made the decision to use the women’s restroom; this was a big step for me. I wanted to prove to myself and others that I have that right. I’m someone that takes chances, and who will stand up for what I believe in.
At every job I’ve been with, I’ve had to educate people on my pronouns. This is often difficult because people don’t always understand or even want to. Over time, it has become easier though. Now, I never hesitate. I am proud of who I am.
A big part of my growth and confidence within myself has come from the Los Angeles LGBT Center through mentorship, the accepting staff, and the friendships I’ve made. The Center has given me the tools and resources to feel that I can be exactly who I want to be. They have helped me express myself in a way I never thought possible. Be yourself... whatever color you choose is always going to be added to the rainbow. 😊
